Frequently Asked Questions

Are you open all year round?
The Fence Authority is open 12 months a year, 6 days a week. We are closed on Sundays and all major holidays.

Do I need to be home during my fence installation?
We ask that you are home at the start of the project to review with our Foreman and provide Water, Electricity and to arrange for Final Payment.

Do I need a Permit?
Every Municipality is different and has its own Building Codes. You are typically responsible for obtaining any permits that may be necessary as well as any applicable permit fees.

How long will my wood fence last?
There are many factors that affect the life expectancy of your fence. Climate, sun exposure, water table, insect populations and the type of wood you have chosen are just to name a few. Spruce fences typically last up to 12 years cedar fences last almost twice as long.

Should I stain or treat my wood fence?
Exposure to the elements will cause your fence to gray and eventually rot. By applying a wood preservative or protectorate you will extend the life of your wood fence. The Fence Authority can provide you with the maintenance you need to keep your fencing looking new and protect it from the environment.

What is a Rock Charge?
When installing a fence, the depth of the posts is critical. If the posts are not installed to an adequate level, the fence will lean which not only looks awful but is also dangerous. If our crew has difficulty digging, the Foreman will stop immediately and show you the problem. An extra charge, if any, will be agreed upon before any further additional work is completed.
