Panel Wood Fence Layout and Installation Guide
How To Plan, click here

Sample Order: 120’ of Panel Fence with (1) 4’w gate in a “U” shape with 3 contiguous lines of 40’ will require the following material list:

15 – 8’ wide fence panels
1 – 4’ wide gate with hardware
17 – 4x4 posts

How To Plan a Wood Panel Fence
1. Create a sketch of the area that you wish to install your fence; take actual measurement of this area; Remember it is best to use full sections (8’ long). If it is not possible, you will have to trim the sections to a shorter width.
2. Establish all locations of gates / transition (sections that change height of fence) sections.
3. Determine total number of sections required; keep in mind 22’ will be 3 full 8’ sections not 2.8. All sections are 8’ long.
4. Determine number of posts required.
5. Enhance your design as you like by adding accessories, such as decorative wood caps, custom top posts or arbors.

Before Installation

Consult your building department for local code requirements. Check with utility companies to locate
underground pipes, lines, cables, etc.

Basic Installation Instructions
1. Dig post hole according to the layout; starting at either corner of a structure or at any given starting point.
2. Recommended post hole size; 12”wide x 36”deep.
3. Insert first post into hole and set with concrete (dry or wet concrete mix, depending on installation requirements). Make sure the post is set high enough to have the top rail on the fence panel nailed to it. When installing post caps keep the post 3” to 4” taller than the top rail.
4. Make sure post is plumb in all sides.
5. Set your string line on the opposite side of the post than you plan to attach your sections. Stretch the string the entire length for your first line of fence to be installed. Be sure string is perfectly aligned with the first post.
6. Mark post holes on 8’ centers along the first line
7. Dig holes to previous specs
8. Go back to the first post and nail (5” 40 penny galvanized nails) fence panel to post at the correct height – it is recommended to nail the fence panel to the face of the post, not between the posts. We do not recommend butt joint nailing.
9. Repeat Step 3 for your next post after you nail the section to it.
10. Set all gate openings 2” wider than actual gate width(measure your gate, as they vary).
11. After you are finished with your first line repeat steps for your next line
12. Attach gates and accessories last (See Gate Installation).
